The flickering neon sign of the laundromat cast a sickly green glow on Beatrice’s face. It was 3 AM, and the only other soul present was a man hunched over a mountain of denim, his face obscured by a baseball cap. Beatrice fed quarters into the ancient washing machine, the metallic clang echoing in the otherwise silent space. She was tired, bone-tired, but the landlord’s threat of eviction had spurred her into action.
