The air in the DMV office hung thick and heavy, a humid miasma of desperation and lukewarm coffee. Tiffany sighed, the fluorescent lights reflecting harshly off the plastic number clutched in her clammy hand: B-47. She’d been here for three hours already, trying to renew her driver’s license, and the only thing keeping her from complete and utter despair was the guy in front of her.
He was built like a refrigerator, all solid angles and contained energy, and he was wearing the most gloriously hideous sweater Tiffany had ever seen. It was a mottled, faded green, stretched taut across his impressive chest. Emblazoned across the front in puffy, glittery letters was: “OFFICIAL FAMILY STYLE FOOD FEST T SHIRT SWEATER.”
Tiffany had no idea what a “Family Style Food Fest” was, or why it would warrant an official t-shirt sweater, but the sheer absurdity of it was captivating. The image below the text was even better: a crudely drawn plate overflowing with cartoonish, vaguely edible blobs. He shifted, the sweater creaking slightly, and a rogue sequin detached itself and landed on the floor. Tiffany stifled a giggle. Maybe this DMV torture wasn’t so bad after all.
